Leash Training Your Dog
Leash training your dog requires patience and perseverance. If you are beginning this process with your dog, or thinking about it, there are some important things that you need to know. First of all, be patient. Dogs for sale learn at different rates, just like people. It may take some dogs several weeks, or maybe even months, of training before they completely learn how to heel on command. Try not to push or fuss at your dog. He will learn at his own pace, and he is doing the best that he can.
Leash training your dog is usually easier with young dogs. They take well to wearing a collar and leash, so if possible, start their dog Obedience Training early. Be aware that some breeds, such as Beagles and Dachshunds, frequently require more intensive training because they are easily distracted. This does not mean that your dog is less intelligent if he behaves this way. It simply means that he may need a longer learning period. Older dogs typically take longer to get used to a collar and leash, so again, it is important to remember to be patient.
If you are leash training your dog, begin by placing the collar and leash on your dog while he eats, then let the leash hang loosely by his side. This will allow him to associate the leash with something pleasant. It also helps him get used to having a collar around his neck. After you have done this for two or three days, take the leash in your hand and follow him around the house for a few minutes after he has eaten. Continue to do this daily, for slightly longer periods of time, until you think that he is used to it.
That is the first big hurdle in leash training your dog. Next, you should try going outside with your dog, and let him drag the leash around. Pick the leash up occasionally and follow him. Offering your dog a treat while showing him the leash is a great positive reinforcement that will make him more likely to accept the whole process. Always be sure to praise your dog when he does well, and do not scold or berate him if he does not catch on as quickly as you would like.
Once you have gotten your dog used to these basics, leash training your dog the rest of the way should be quite easy as dog training and behavior. If you feel that you need professional advice, try talking to your veterinarian for some helpful tips. He may be able to offer you a variety of different options that you may not otherwise think of. In addition, be sure to look online for information. There are dozens of websites that offer exactly the type of information that you are looking for. Consider joining in to chat room or forum discussions that cater to pet owners. This can be a great way of connecting with other people that are going through a similar experience.
The most important thing to remember about leash training your dog is to be patient and consistent, so that your dog will respond accordingly.

Bach: Concerts avec plusieurs instruments, Vol. 5 $19.98 The ensemble Caf? Zimmermann, lead by violinist Pablo Valetti, is one of the new breed of Baroque groups offering lean, high-energy performances on historical instruments. The name refers to a Leipzig coffeehouse where Bach’s Collegium Musicum instrumental ensemble might have performed in the 18th century. Imagined in that setting, the one-instrument-per-part performance here is plausible, although evidence that such performances occurred in Bach’s time does not indicate that such performances were desirable. Bach himself requested an orchestra of 24 players from the Leipzig city council, and a piece like the Suite No. 3 in D major, BWV 1068, echoes French ensembles of that size. For those down with the small-group approach, this release offers a very high level of musicianship and some fresh readings from Valetti. Tempos are quick, with the suite’s famous Air on a G string taken at an unusually brisk clip, but the textures remain unusually transparent, and the overall feel is lively and clear. The Brandenburg Concerto No. 6, BWV 1063, the most troublesome of the set of six with its unusual double-viola scoring, gets a rich, complex reading. Another attraction comes from the Alpha label’s practice of pairing musical works with detailed art-historical essays on a painting of the period; the work by Antwerp artist Peter Jacob Horemans, though only tangentially related to Bach, is full of fascinating details such as a cup of coffee or tea being dumped into a bowl, perhaps to be given to one of the four dogs appearing in the painting. As always, buyers of Alpha’s series can give themselves a decent grounding in art history at no additional cost. Notes are in French and English. ~ James Manheim, Rovi |

Bebee or Two Little Wooden Shoes $0.99 According to Wikipedia: “Ouida (January 1, 1839 [1] – January 25, 1908) was the pen name of the English novelist Maria Louise Ramé (although she preferred to be known as Marie Louise de la Ramée). … During her career, she wrote more than 40 novels, children’s books and collections of short stories and essays. She was an animal rights activist and animal rescuer, and at times owned as many as thirty dogs. For many years she lived in London, but about 1874 she went to Italy, where she died. Ouida’s work went through several phases during her career. In her early period, her novels were a hybrid of the sensationalism of the 1860s and the proto-adventure novels dubbed “muscular fiction” that were emerging in part as a romanticization of imperial expansion. Later her work was more along the lines of historical romance, though she never stopped comment on contemporary society. She also wrote several stories for children. One of her most famous novels, Under Two Flags, described the British in Algeria in the most extravagant of terms, while nonetheless also expressing sympathy for the French–with whom Ouida deeply identified–and, to some extent, the Arabs. This book went on to be staged in plays, and subsequently to be turned into at least three movies, transitioning Ouida in the 20th century.” |

Excerpt: Aelurodon Fossil range: Middle Miocene Early Pliocene Pre O S D C P T J K Pg N item Range of Aelurodontina based on fossil distribution item Synonyms item Aelurodon is an extinct canine genus of the subfamily Borophaginae which lived from the Hemingfordian stage (20.6 Mya ) of the Miocene to the Hemphillian stage of the Early Pliocene (4.9 Mya). Aelurodon existed for approximately 15.7 million years. Origin Aelurodon stirtoni Aelurodon are a part of a clade of canids loosely known as “bone-crushing” or “hyena-like” dogs, that apparently descended from the earlier genera Protomarctus and Tomarctus . Several species are known from fossils found in the central and western U.S., suggesting a wide geographic range during their peak in the Miocene epoch. Large species of Aelurodon ( A. ferox and A. taxoides ) may have hunted in packs like modern wolves . Canid competitors Aelurodon lived during a period with other canidae, specifically Borophaginae such as Epicyon (20.6 5.330 Ma), Paratomarctus (16.3 5.3 Ma), Borophagus (23.3 3.6 Ma), Carpocyon (20.4 3.9 Ma), and the first emerging wolf, Canis lepophagus (10.3 1.8 Ma). |
